What is the best time of year to replace your roof?

replace your roof

If you are thinking to replace your roof in 2022 you want to make sure to take in all of the variables. These include contractor certifications, availability of the materials being used, and the weather is right for a proper installation.

Fall is the best time to replace your roof

(September, October, November)

Fall is considered to be the best time to replace your roof here in the south. This is the time of year when you wake up and it is 58 degrees but by 4 pm it is 88 degrees. This is the ideal situation for our crews. It means that the most labor is done in the cool weather but you still get the benefits of the sun sealing your shingles. This time of year also brings much more predictable weather. You have moved on from the pop-up afternoon showers that seem to come out of nowhere.

(March, April, May)

For most of us, spring is a slow time of the year. We have made it through the holidays and the initial rush that the first of a new year brings. We are planning out our summer and putting together that list of things your home needs. For the contractor, we are similarly a bit slower and gearing up for the onslaught that is the summer rush. This means we generally have more time to get that new roof on coming to the summertime.

(June, July, August)

This time of year is a full spring for roofing contractors. Everyone is looking to get their roof replaced. The storms are causing roof issues to rear their ugly head. The kids are out of school so the routine is more flexible and the long days make it easy for crews to install a new roof in one day. It is the ideal time for all parties but it does have some drawbacks. For the crews doing the work this time of year is brutally hot and humid. The materials can also get so hot that they become a hassle to work with and the volume of jobs makes the lead time much longer. All that being said, this time of year is a very popular time for your roof to be put on.

(December, January, February)

Winter in the south does not bring the same type of challenges that our northern and midwestern friends deal with… snow! We do get our occasional snow storm here in ATL most of the time it is all melted away by the following morning and then it is business as usual. If you know you need a new roof and you missed the summer and fall this is a great time to get it done. Roofers are generally slower this time of year which means you will have a shorter waiting period. If you are going to get it done in winter make sure that the company and crew you chose to work with are installing under the correct conditions. The materials we install do have recommended temperature windows for installation. This is to ensure that the asphalt sealant can do its job and seal the shingles.
